Summary

Librarian note: An alternative cover for this ISBN can be found here

'Salem's Lot is a small New England town with the usual quota of gossips, drinkers, weirdos and respectable folk。 Of course there are tales of strange happenings—but not more than in any other town its size。

Ben Mears, a moderately successful writer, returns to the Lot to write a novel based on his early years, and to exorcise the terrors that have haunted him since childhood。 The event he witnessed in the house now rented by a new resident。 A newcomer with a strange allure。 A man who causes Ben some unease as things start to happen: a child disappears, a dog is brutally killed—nothing unusual, except the list starts to grow。

Soon surprise will turn to bewilderment, bewilderment to confusion and finally to terror 。 。 。

I expected more when I started reading this book。 After spookiness of « The Shining » and greatness of « IT » and « Doctor Sleep », I was anxiously awaiting for the next horror story。 I wanted to see blood, the undead rising from their coffins and main characters trying to escape from the grip of the vampires。 But instead, I received a story which is a child’s play in comparison to the previous stories I read。 Stephen King’s language is muted and doesn’t go into details too deep。 Because I love I expected more when I started reading this book。 After spookiness of « The Shining » and greatness of « IT » and « Doctor Sleep », I was anxiously awaiting for the next horror story。 I wanted to see blood, the undead rising from their coffins and main characters trying to escape from the grip of the vampires。 But instead, I received a story which is a child’s play in comparison to the previous stories I read。 Stephen King’s language is muted and doesn’t go into details too deep。 Because I love Stephen King I give this book 3 stars, but the story deserves 2。 。。。more

This is what a vampire novel should be。 I was hooked from beginning to end, and ooooooh the end- had me saying out loud “No way! No friggin way!”I think 600-700 pages may be King’s sweet spot。

I decided to revisit Salem’s Lot after 27 years and could still remember it so vividly。 This isn’t my favourite Stephen King but it was definitely the one that got me hooked。 I love how the characters develop as the sinister story unfolds。 I read the kindle edition which had the added bonus of some deleted scenes and additional material。 This story is so much more than vampires。

Really disappointed by this sadly! I was expecting to love it but really wasn't excited by it at all。I liked the chapters where the characters were introduced in typical King style, one by one getting a glimpse of their minds。 But I wasn't really able to connect with any of the characters and felt a lot of it was boring。 Really disappointed by this sadly! OkBit overblown and pompous, with a lot of dull passages about the town, among other things。 After a slightly turgid start it warms up pretty well, though the ending is messy and inconclusive, perhaps deliberately。 There was a weird mistake too when Barlow dives through the kitchen window and kills Mark’s parents: the author temporarily forgets that vampires can only go where they have been invited。 Overall quite enjoyable but not a classic。

Loved this book so much! There was alot of characters I recommend keeping a journal to write them all down to avoid confusion。

It is slightly ironic that I like this book so much: Stephen King was inspired by his great love for Bram Stoker's Dracula, which I read a couple months ago and found very outdated and too slow-paced and Victorian。 I didn't like Dracula as a book, only as a story and what that story represented and originated。This。 This is what that book was the progenitor of。 A harrowing and gripping tale of vampirism in the twentieth century。 What would have happened if an ancient vampire would attack not Vict It is slightly ironic that I like this book so much: Stephen King was inspired by his great love for Bram Stoker's Dracula, which I read a couple months ago and found very outdated and too slow-paced and Victorian。 I didn't like Dracula as a book, only as a story and what that story represented and originated。This。 This is what that book was the progenitor of。 A harrowing and gripping tale of vampirism in the twentieth century。 What would have happened if an ancient vampire would attack not Victorian England, but rural USA in the 1970s? Through trickery, mind-control, and usage of the scepticism of the modern world, this ancient evil is able to accomplish more than we might expect at first glance。 And how does a small group of people to about trying to defeat such a powerful enemy, one that can increase his army by dozens every night? And who will believe them and help them。 Let me put it to you like this: In the real world, if your mother came running to your house, pale as an icy lake at night, and told you she had been attacked by a vampire。。。 would you believe her?The first book that actually had me really scared a few times (and right before bed)。 The addition of the short stories at the end of this edition is very nice too, and I would recommend this as a sort of starter-book for people who want to start reading Lovecraftian-style novels。 。。。more

Probably closer to 3。5/5 for me, but I rather enjoyed it。 My first King novel after reading Carrie a while back。 The town felt like a living and breathing thing, until it stopped living。。。Great read as I work through King in publication order。

It took me a couple of years, but I finished it。 It takes a while, but it really picks up towards the end。 The added short stories really add to the experience。

Book Rating: 10/10I love this book。 This is like my third reread of it。 It's definitely, in my opinion, one of King’s best-published works to date。 At its heart, it's a retelling of Bram Stoker’s Dracula。 But to describe it as only that would be a disservice to the novel and to Stephen King。 Who has crafted so many masterpieces over the years。 Salem’s Lot is your average sleepy town。 It could be your town。 It could be my town。 It actually reminds me of my town, minus the vampires, of course。 And Book Rating: 10/10I love this book。 This is like my third reread of it。 It's definitely, in my opinion, one of King’s best-published works to date。 At its heart, it's a retelling of Bram Stoker’s Dracula。 But to describe it as only that would be a disservice to the novel and to Stephen King。 Who has crafted so many masterpieces over the years。 Salem’s Lot is your average sleepy town。 It could be your town。 It could be my town。 It actually reminds me of my town, minus the vampires, of course。 And that's what's scary about it。 It isn't some gothic village in Transylvania in the 19th Century; this is set (for its time of publishing) in modern America。 I love every character in this book without exception。 The town itself is its own character。 I'm intentionally vague on the plot as I don't like them and try to avoid accidentally revealing any。 But this book is most definitely a pickup and read。 。。。more
